Those damned photos

What's Mallard raving about today?

His readers.

"Until further notice" Mallard will be publishing photos of Hillary Clinton, instead of his usual buck-toothed caricatures. Which suggests that, at some point, Mallard is going to declare victory over his own readers and go back to doing caricatures. (I'm going to basically ignore the fact that Mallard is using the opinion pages of newspapers to carry on a feud with his own readers, but don't let that stop any of you.)

Whether the change back to caricatures happens because readers relent or because Mallard simply fabricates the reader capitulation (just as this current feud is almost certainly a fabrication or based on at most a very few letters) will be unclear when it happens.

When it does happen, I will simply refer you back to this post and take the rest of the evening off.

God, this guy is a freak.

On the bright side, this is the most visually interesting Mallard Fillmore cartoon since basically ever.

What is Mallard trying to prove by doing this, exactly? Giving in to the demands of the readers that he's obviously trying to spite seems strange, even by his standards. But hey, at least now I don't have to feel like gouging my eyes out when I read this strip.

Little bit off topic, but who's betting that Tinsley will completely forget about this feud and go right back to caricatures?

I don't know about anybody else, but if I was a newspaper editor and saw somebody try to run a picture in the comics section, I'd pull that strip so fast that all the others would go "What the fuck was that‽"

Of course, I would have pulled Mallard Fillmore for being routinely incomprehensible a long time ago, so that's kind of a moot point.

Tinny's trying to suggest that actual photos of Hillary are even harder to look at than his hideous caricatures.

Good luck with that, you little scumbag. By now, you've had fourteen opportunities to wake up with a hangover and realize how badly you've screwed up. That's not even the photo I would've used, were I in your shoes. (Of course, if I were in your shoes, I would've swallowed a bottle of pills years ago. Just sayin'.)

Mallard appears to be sitting in a elementary school seat, and is writing his "letter" with a pencil. Somehow, this seems very appropriate.

Arsehole Alert: Certain concern-trolls and/or Obamaniacs think I'm just awwwful because I'm not hopping the bandwagon, joining their religion, and drinking the Kool-Aid of Change, but in the interest of fairness, I'd like to point out that ugly freak Chris Muir's serial attack on Michelle Obama in his own ugly little piss-ant strip have not only crossed boundaries of good taste that Tinny wouldn't approach on his worst bender, but have vaulted over them at top speed, demanding an award. (Muir has his own problems with art, notably human anatomy, that make Shoulderless Heroin-Zombie-Ghoul Chantel look freakin' hawt by comparison.)

Is this torture or something? Tinsley, check with your current federal government with regards to torture. They have a few pointers, not the least of which is the fact that showing a photograph of someone who basically looks like a human being (unless you've managed to subconciously create your own gag reflex with regards to Clinton, how mature) will not actually torture anybody.

I realize it isn't the usual staple of porn and Ann Coulter that neocon men like (those that are hetero anyways) but still.

My eyes aren't hurting.

I don't think Tinsley took into account the fact that reducing a large color picture into a black-and-white image the size of a postage stamp would kinda lose something in the resolution.

FOILED AGAIN!! Back to the bottle.

I suggested this, I know I did.

With Hillary? Maybe, but I know I did!

Not that it's my idea, I seem to remember a certain '80s cartoonist doing it all the time.

That suggestion was long enough ago to beat his lead time, so he does read this blog.

Ha, we're complaining because no one looks remotely human, not 'cause he's picking on the little lady.

I'm not a fan of Hillary Clinton by any stretch of the imagination, but the implications made in today's strip just further reinforce Tinman's own ignorance. "Haw haw I'm makin' fun of her cause she's ugly AREN'T I A HOOT?"

I never thought I'd say this, but Tinshley's finally found a way to improve his strip: stop drawing things.

That photograph, while unflattering, proves that Tinsley does lousy caricatures because none of the traits he exaggerates are evident in the photo. Where's the teeth?

Uh, Tinsley? That photograph? Yeah, here's the deal: Not that unattractive.

When you think of all of the photographs that have been taken of Clinton over the years, you know there have to be a lot where she's yawning, or picking her nose, or making a face, or just generally having a bad hair day, and this isn't one of them.

I'm sure Tinsley feels like he is really putting one over on his critics, haw haw haw, but it doesn't work today.

I wonder how many days he's going to beat this dead horse. I wonder if he's getting permissions to print these copyrighted photographs in his creepy little comic strip.

The duck is threatening us with a photo of a middle-aged woman wearing glasses and a suit, looking serious while reading a book about Iraq.

It makes her look ... presidential.

If I didn't know that the problem is Tinsley is incapable of objectively analyzing his own work (...based on his dreadfully inept writing...) I would think that he's started supporting Hillary now.

I concur with the commenters that the photo makes Hillary look a) fairly attractive and b) presidential.

BillyWitchDoctor: Hopefully by now you recognize my name, at least enough to know I'm not a concern-troll. I'm here to make fun of Mallard Fillmore. But, while I respect your opinions, and I respect Hillary, I and a lot of other Dems like Obama. Please stop trashing us.

No offense intended towards non-trolls, Gold--hence "certain." For example, I can say truthfully say certain people regularly try to trash me here because I like my candidate; I'm not attacking people in general.

I'll apologize for the hopping/joining/drinking crack, though. Little tweaked by trollery in the prior thread. Sorry.

Thanks for apologizing.

I'm guessing that "until further notice" means "until tomorrow's strip, where I'll claim that I've already heard the reaction to this strip (which hasn't even run as I'm preparing this one), and that the readers have realized the error of their ways in criticizing my caricatures."
