That damned Demographic

What's Mallard raving about today?

Television, Technology, Bar Fights.

We're edging close to Creepiest Unintentional Self-Revelation territory...except that there's very little here we didn't already know.

Mallard Fillmore doesn't understand that he's nearly alone in the way he thinks, does he?

Okay, if the movie first mocks someone for having a 4:3 format screen labeling it as "prehistoric", and then says the explosions barfight appeals to his demographic, is he making fun of people his age?

Or was this two incongruous things he wanted to mock at once and failed?

If I were to take a guess this is him complaining about being talked down to by the people who make the TV shows, IE "They think I need bar fights, car chases, explosions, etc. to keep my interest" And also complaining apparently because he uses an old style TV and modern TV commercials show cutting edge stuff and stuff just a month older as junk.

That being said he didn't do it very directly and it is somewhat unclear, this is me just guessing that he is fairly unwilling to poke fun at himself so this feels likely. And to the explosions thing, if he didn't complain about art he doesn't get and complicated stories being too wordy, well it comes across as yelling at everything.

So far, the message I'm getting is that TV is so boring and contrived, it takes all the willpower he can muster to stay planted in front of it eighteen hours a day.

No, I don't think he does; I get the impression he honestly speaks for the vast majority of all Americans. And Nancy Pelosi is speaker of the house and "That One" is president because his party has failed to be insanely, hatefully right-wing enough.

I agree that Tinshley thinks he speaks for the Silent Majority of Real 'mercans.

Not the bad ones wut got educated and invernerated the internet, an' the tellyvisun. Those were not real 'mercans.

Why real 'mercan are just like him, oppressed by Hollywud libruls and dusky-hued smooth-talkin' guys into givn their jobs away. That's why when the tellyvisun suxxxx so baadd, he kant go like to a public park (too communistical) or read a book from a publik librararry (also communistic).
