Yup. On the day of the biggest election in ever, all Tinsley can muster is a bitchy complaint about people voting for the wrong school board members. Whattaguy. At least he's not actively urging people not to vote.
In Minnesota, we don't have a straight party ticket option on the ballot, and the judges are not identified by party anyway. It can be really hard to figure out who is a serious candidate and who is a fundamentalist God-botherer with an axe to grind.
Of course, this is all about the possibility of a big Obama wave that sweeps out a lot of the old Republican officeholders. Funny how the cries for ticket-splitting and bipartisanship have increased with the prospects for Democratic victory.
Actually as pathetically anti-climatic as the is on election day, it's one of the few (only?) things I agree with Mallard on. I think it's fairly important when choosing something like a county assessor or a family court judge to look at someone's record... these elections don't shift the balance of power in the federal or state legislature, and blindly voting the party line can lead to voting a qualified person out of office. I wish these races would be covered by the local press as closely as the national elections. And I don't see it as the fault of a stupid electorate, just a sadly under-informed one.

It would probably be easier to be informed at choices if candidates weren't more concerned with 30 second ads bashing their opponents and seeing how many signs they can put up along one stretch of road.
Yeah, I live in Minnesota, too. With the exception of voting against one or two "God-botherer" judges, I didn't bother with ANY of the judges or commissioners on the ballot. But better to abstain than to vote uninformed.
I'm assuming that this guy is running in Tinsley's hometown. Which begs the question: Why should the 99.9% of people who don't live in that random Indiana suburb care?
That said, most of the twenty-or so judges on my ballot were incumbents with no competition. So that was the easiest part. Well, aside from voting for The Prez, obviously. Bob Barr!

So, Tinsley is really advocating folks vote a McCain/Biden ticket?
